SCHOLARSHIP TO MARITORIOUS SPORTSPERSONS

To motivate, encourage and nurture budding sports talent, the Department awards annual scholarships to first three position holders in Inter-school/Inter-College competition conducted by Education Department Chandigarh/Panjab University Chandigarh and Sub Junior/Junior/Senior Championships conducted by concerned Recognized/Affiliated Sports Associations of Chandigarh.

This Scholarship is given for the performance in Sports Competitions held during the preceding year.

I. Eligibility

Under this policy, following candidates would only be eligible for Scholarship-

The scholarship is intended exclusively for Bonafide students (and not for employees) of recognized/affiliated schools, colleges, or institutes situated in Chandigarh.

OR

An applicant who is a resident of Chandigarh but is not pursuing studies within Chandigarh shall be eligible for the scholarship only if he/she is enrolled in a recognized or affiliated school, college or institute located outside Chandigarh. Further, the applicant must have participated in the Open State Competition/Tournament of Chandigarh conducted by the concerned State Association. Furthermore, the applicant has to submit an undertaking that he/she has not claimed the benefit of any sports scholarship from any other State/Union Territory. Such applicants must submit a valid and updated residence certificate of at least past 03 years’ duration from the date of submission of the application to be considered for the award of the scholarship.

Note - Student of Open School/correspondence/ distance/ online learning /coaching centers etc will not be eligible for scholarship.

He or She must represent Chandigarh in State level competitions organized by Education department/Panjab University and sports associations recognized/affiliated by Chandigarh Olympic Association/Chandigarh Sports Council.

Date of competition would be considered as the cut-off date for the concerned scholarship category.

A player would be eligible for the grant of scholarship for any one highest sports achievement in a session/financial year, even if he/she has acquired multiple medals in multiple sports disciplines.

Individual events/ Team Games position achieved will be considered only if it has been achieved through a competition with seven or more competitors/atleast seven units/teams for Open state (Senior/Junior/Sub-Junior), Inter-School and Inter College tournament /Championship. (except para/specially-abled sportspersons)

II. Scholarship Amount

The eligibility criteria for consideration the Association/Game for awarding scholarship: -

Only those Sports/Games which are included in Chandigarh Sports Policy, as amended from time to time

Concerned association should be affiliated with Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) or recognized with Chandigarh Sports Council as per constitution of CSC.

Concerned association’s National body must be affiliated / recognized with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The merit certificate issued by the State Associations must contain serial number, number of participants and players photograph duly attested by the concerned Secretary of Association.

III. Procedure

Applications for scholarship will be accepted as and when Public Notice is issued by the Department on the official website of Sports Department.

Position holder would have to submit online application for claiming scholarship along with a copy of Merit certificate, school /college Bonafide certificate /ID card, Aadhar card of applicant only, residential details and bank account details on department's website http://sportsdeptt.chd.gov.in

Aadhar Card must be linked/Seeded with Bank account.

A Committee under Chairpersonship of Joint Director Sports with District Sports Officer and 2 Senior most coaches of the department and coach of concerned sports discipline as Members upon getting the certificates certified from Secretary of concerned Chandigarh Sports Association/District Education Officer/Director Sports, Panjab University would initiate disbursal of scholarship.

Any incorrect information/concealment/forgery on the part of applicant would render him/her ineligible for scholarship and would invite action as per relevant law/rules.
