INTRODUCTION OF ACADEMIES UNDER CHANDIGARH SPORTS COUNCIL
Chandigarh Football Academy was conceived and inaugurated by H.E., Lt. Gen. J.F.R. Jacob, PVSM (Retd), by the then Governor of Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh on 07.8.2000 Keeping in view the success of the Football Academy, the Administrator U.T. Chandigarh introduced Hockey Academy for Boys and Girls. The Academy has now been re-named as “Chandigarh Football & Hockey Academy”.
CHANDIGARH CRICKET ACADEMY
On the basis of splendid success of Chandigarh Boys , the Cricket Academy was conceived by H.E., General. S.F. Rodrigues (Retd.) PVSM, VSM Administrator of UT, Chandigarh.
CHANDIGARH GIRLS CRICKET ACADEMY
H.E., General. S.F. Rodrigues (Retd.) PVSM, VSM Administrator of UT, Chandigarh passed orders to introduce Girls Cricket & Girls Football Academies from the financial year 2008-09. 24 inmates in the age group of 12-13 years admitted in the respective academies. The selection trials to select Girls Cricket trainees is in progress and the trainees shall be inducted in the academy in the last week of July/1st week of Aug. 2018. The terms of agreement of Girls trainees shall be 5 years, as has been approved in the case of Girls Hockey trainees.
Schemes of Academies
A conducive environment has been provided for specific coaching and training on scientific basis to achieve par excellence at National/International level.
The aim of academies is to develop the game of Cricket, Football & Hockey as well as to inculcate the sports culture in Northern Region of India. The main object of this academy is to produce outstanding Cricket, Football & Hockey players of National and International standard.
In a short span of time, the said Football, Hockey and Cricket academies have produced numerous players of National / International standard.
FACILITIES BEING PROVIDED TO INMATES OF ACADEMIES
- Free boarding, lodging and nutritious / balanced diet
- Free sports uniform and allied sports equipment.
- Free academics in Govt. Schools including free books, uniform, allied study material and extra coaching classes.
SPORTS EXPOSURES BEING PROVIDED TO INMATES OF ACADEMIES
The CFHA has been organizing matches for giving exposure to its trainees with a view to improving the standard of the game. The Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament duly recognized by All India Football Federation(AIFF) is being organized every year. The CFHA has got direct affiliation with the IHF for the participation in the National Tournaments of academy hockey team in the name of Chandigarh Hockey Academy. The football team was sent for advanced training to Leipzig, Germany.
